one of my favorites

I want to remember these words......if and when we need them. Maybe we should just post this on the refrigerator and it will be clear to all where we stand, LOL. Yes, what a good plan. :~)
Have a blessed Sunday. We are off to spend a few days at some wonderful lake cabins! See you on Tuesday!

aprons

I love aprons.
I nearly always have one on during the day. Aside from the obvious reasons to wear an apron (clean clothes), there is just something special about it. That little rectangle of cotton with strings makes me feel connected to the women throughout the generations who have worked hard to create home. An apron makes me feel like I have just donned the most fancy uniform, and I am ready to get down to business.
I have made aprons and been given aprons, I have thrifted aprons and refashioned them out of old skirts and dresses, and I love them all just the same.
I am in the mood to make a new apron.
Here is a little sampling of the aprons that are catching my eye.

I love half aprons, but I do own a few other styles as well. I am thinking I will make another half one. My favorite apron is thread bare. Oh yes, I definitely need a new one. :~)

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July.

July 4th

We went to the fire station this morning for their annual pancake breakfast. A short 10 minute walk for a pancake feast, and now we are home until we walk downtown to the parade at noon. Even though my heart yearns for a country life, this small town life is pretty close to perfect. We are within walking distance of  nearly everything we need. We are just a few blocks from our historic downtown area and that is pretty cool, in fact, we live in the first planned neighborhood in our town established in 1909. I love that.
We are heading to my sister's house in the country for a BBQ after the parade, and then we are home for fireworks when the sun goes down. It is going to be a wonderful day.
Have a blessed 4th ! Love, Tami

camping

{can you see their little friend ?......mr. snake}

{we love, love, love yurts!}

{popcorn for breakfast - yum!}

We had a great time camping last weekend. We were joined by our best neighbor friends. There are 7 kiddos between us. These kids are more like family than just friends. Our children have lived next to one another all of their lives. We think that is pretty awesome.

The weather was in this strange cycle where it would pour rain for about 15 minutes, and then get really muggy and warm. It was like clockwork. It made for a soggy but warm trip. I was just happy that it was warm. Cold and wet would have been unbearable.

If you have never camped in a yurt, you should try it. It saves time and space, because we are hauling around less gear. As it is, we usually have to take 2 vehicles. We are a little less crowded on the drive without a giant tent and air mattress crammed into the van. I like that.

We found this wonderful little swimming hole for the kids. (I think it was actually just a giant puddle from all the rain) :~)  It was a ways down the trail and we felt like we had discovered our own little slice of heaven. It made me think of Little House on the Prairie, it seems like they always had a swimming hole. We were so happy to spend many hours there just hanging out. I found wildflowers growing in patches and beautiful little pebbles to sort through. I think that was my favorite part of the trip. I don't have a single picture of it, my camera was left back at camp. Bummer.

We had a morning campfire on Sunday. I love a good campfire all day long. It makes me feel cozy just thinking about it. We sure did smell of campfire though. My knitting basket will have to be seriously aired out.

Campfires, Chai tea, knitting, and good friends. My weekend was fab. We get to do it all again in a week or so. This time we are trying out some little cabins on a lake.

Have a blessed Monday, Tami

just maybe

As I sit here typing, I can see the sun starting to break through the morning clouds and make it's way through the very lush tree outside my window. Can it possibly be.....

It feels like we have been waiting so long for summer to come. The wet spring and summer that we are having will certainly have an effect on our short growing season. We will see won't we. Maybe this is the start of outrageously beautiful weather, and all of the rain has given the plants such a glorious start, that we will have the biggest harvest. A girl can dream.
Onto really good news. Rainier cherries are here. They are my favorite. We ate a big bowl of them. It was heaven.

We are heading out Friday morning for a little annual camping trip with friends. At this particular park, we camp in yurts. We love yurt camping! When we arrive, it's like having 2 hours of the work already done for you. The rest of the experience is very much traditional camping, with eating and cooking outside, outhouses, mosquitoes, big bonfires. You know, the good stuff. I can't wait.

We only have two camping trips planned this summer. I feel like there just isn't any time for more. Kane will be leaving in mid-July for a 2 week long mission trip to New Orleans. That is a really big deal and such a great opportunity. Gage starts football practice 5 nights a week during August, so we are stuck around here after that. It makes the summer break go so fast. Blink, and school will be starting. Each year seems to pass more quickly than the last.

We are truly excited to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary at the end of August. We are planning a big family and friends party in mid-August. This will be the highlight of our summer. Well, maybe not for the kids, but definitely for Eric and I. :~)

Have a blessed day, Tami
